To get your production line moving, you need to identify the exact tools required to meet your technical specifications, decide whether to buy or lease them, and ensure they are installed safely and correctly. Getting this right from the start prevents costly bottlenecks and ensures your manufacturing process is both efficient and compliant with UK safety standards.

1. Define Your Machinery Requirements

Before you start browsing catalogues, refer back to your technical specifications and your "golden sample" prototype. You need to know exactly what each piece of equipment needs to achieve. Consider:

  • Capacity: Can the machine handle your expected production volumes?
  • Precision: Does it meet the tolerances required for your product?
  • Power: Does your premises have the correct electrical supply (e.g., three-phase power)?
  • Footprint: Will it fit in your designated layout with enough space for operators to move safely?

2. Sourcing: New vs. Used and Buying vs. Leasing

In the UK, you have several options for acquiring equipment. Your choice will largely depend on your startup budget and cash flow.

This "sign-off" phase is the best time to identify any installation errors or calibration issues.
